명덕은 본래 밝은 것인가요?Is bright virtue inherently luminous?

명덕이란 하늘로부터 얻은 것이니라. 허령하여 모든 이치를 갖추고 있되, 욕심에 가려질 수는 있어도 그 본래의 밝음은 사라지지 않는 법이란다.
Bright virtue is what humans receive from Heaven — void, numinous, possessing all principles. Though obscured by desires, its essence never diminishes.
